What is Dedicated Logistics?

This is a question we are often confronted with and there really is a broad range of answers. The important thing is to say what Dedicated Logistics means to YOU! Logistics as defined in the business world can be summed up by the following:

  • The process of planning, implementing, and controlling the efficient, cost effective flow and storage of raw materials, in-process inventory, finished goods and related information from point of origin to point of consumption for the purpose of meeting customer requirements. -- (Reference: Canadian Association of Logistics Management, http://www.calm.org/calm/AboutCALM/AboutCALM.html, 12 Feb, 1998)

Now it is a bit easier to define Dedicated as follows:

  • Given over to a particular purpose (www.merriam-webster.com)
  • Synonyms: Constant, Faithful, Devoted, Loyal, Steadfast

Putting these two together we will see that a Dedicated Logistics company is intended to provide a service that assists companies with a specific part or parts of their logistics process. This can include:

  • Procurement and warehousing of raw materials.
  • Warehousing of finished materials.
  • Delivery of finished materials to retail outlets.
  • Delivery of finished materials to point of sale customers.

American Dedicated Logistics focuses on the last two parts of the logistics chain. We help our customers schedule and complete routine local deliveries to either retail outlets or end of the line customers.

How Do We Help You Accomplish Your Goals?

Now that we've discussed what part of the Dedicated Logistics chain we can help you with, the next question is "How". It all starts with an initial consultation on what your goals and needs are. We will first ask some questions of your company.

  • What is your delivery need?
  • Who are your customers?
  • What do you feel is working now and what would you like to see improved?
  • What are your plans for growth and goals for the future?
  • What are you willing to consider changing and what is not up for discussion?

It is very important to all of us at American Dedicated Logistics that we get to know your needs before deciding whether our solutions will work for you. Once we have learned about your company we will begin to look at your current delivery operation to give you our analysis on what improvements can be made and how you can benefit from utilizing dedicated contractors to complete the delivery function. Here are some of the things we typically find:

  • Optimization of routes may allow you to do more with fewer drivers.
  • Utilization of contract professionals will improve efficiency over hourly employees.
  • Customers with low monthly purchasing power in remote locations may require a more inventive delivery technique such as a co-op.
  • There are hidden costs to employees and company owned vehicles that your ground level managers will often not see or not take into consideration.
  • Partnering with a professional logistics management company will improve the overall effectiveness of getting your goods to your customers while costing you less than what your operation costs you today!

What is very important to note is that we are NOT in the business of taking over your delivery process. American Dedicated Logistics is not a delivery company. We will work WITH your people to help them accomplish the delivery process more efficiently through route analysis, asset (delivery drivers) analysis, and by managing a contract driver pool to ensure that you have exactly the vehicles and drivers that are needed.

How Do We Get Started?

At American Dedicated Logistics we believe it is our duty to EARN your business. We will come in and do an initial analysis of your current delivery process for free and without obligation. Should you choose for whatever reason not to apply our solutions, you are in no way indebted to us or obligated in any way.

In the event that you do opt for implementation of dedicated contract drivers we will work that implementation plan out with you and your delivery manager. There will be no long term contract as we serve at your pleasure for only as long as we are effectively meeting your needs. As such, we are available whenever called upon to come in and take another look at how things are going. We will always be ready to suggest route improvements, increase or decrease the number of drivers, or look for innovative ways to expand your delivery area at a low cost.

It is our sincere hope that we can begin the process with you and develop a long lasting business relationship. Please call the numbers below to set up a consultation.
